The Blazer cocktail is an alcoholic beverage! It has an unusual taste for alcohol, which is why it is so popular among young people. Blazer comes in a wide variety of flavours, which makes it popular, but also quite dangerous. After all, not everyone can resist the temptation to try as many different flavours as possible at once, but it is still alcohol, which means that in the long run, the drink can cause great harm to a young body.

The history of the drink’s creation

As usual, this unique drink has an unusual history. This story could begin like a real fairy tale. Once upon a time, there was a bartender who worked in a fairly popular bar called “ELDORADO” in the city of sin, San Francisco. Let’s say that the time of the action is the end of the 19th century, namely 1850. And so, this very bartender decided to experiment and show off his impressive skills to the public. He chose a good whisky, set it on fire and began to pour the bright alcoholic flame from one silver mug to another. He performed his trick so slowly that the audience could see every drop of burning liquid and enjoy the unusual spectacle.

And so, this unique performance, conducted in dim blue lighting, began to attract the attention of an increasing number of spectators. Due to the fact that gambling was actively practised in the establishment and there were generally a large number of people there, the fame of the bartender, who knew how to prepare an unusual drink, gradually spread throughout the state.

One day, the then-president of the United States was among the visitors and wanted to reward the young man for his mesmerising show, so he gave him his cigar. That is how the now famous blazer drink came to be.
The bartender’s invention was distinguished not only by its unique taste, but also by its beauty, which still excites the imagination of lovers of hot drinks.

In addition, the drink is distinguished by:

  • Relatively low cost,
  • Minimal alcohol content,
  • Spectacular preparation method,
  • A wide variety of flavours (there are entire catalogues of cocktail recipes).

How to prepare

The soft blue glow and equally bright bluish flame of the burning drink gave it its name – Blue Blazer. This masterpiece of the cocktail world has a pleasant taste and is even good for you. At least, that’s what its creator believed, and he wasn’t far from the truth. The genius bartender’s name was Jerry Thomas, and he prepared the original version of the drink from the following ingredients:

  • A base of good quality whisky.
  • A small amount of boiling water.
  • Honey (some versions of the drink use powdered sugar).
  • Lemon or lime juice.

Try it and get well – that’s what the bartender offered his visitors. The drink is especially enjoyable during the cold season. It really warms you up and relieves mild discomfort or even a sore throat, thanks to the combined effects of honey, lemon and low-alcohol spirits.
Blazer is ideal for those who enjoy low-alcohol hot drinks, as its alcohol content does not exceed 8%.

Why shouldn’t you drink this beverage without restraint?

At first, you might think that the drink is too light to get you drunk, even if you drink enough of it. However, this is not the case at all! It would seem that it only has an 8% alcohol content. How could you possibly get drunk? But after just two glasses, the drink activates its ‘power’ and your sense of self can suffer greatly. If you drink slowly, prolonging the pleasure, this dose can simply knock you off your feet. Therefore, when drinking, you should always control yourself and not lose your sense of moderation.

How to make a Blazer yourself?

Making a Blazer is always a bit of a show, but learning how to make this impressive drink at home to delight your guests is actually not that difficult.
To make it, you will need:

  1. Two attractive vessels, which will also play an active role in creating the show.
  2. Whisky. In this case, you can use any kind, except for low-quality ones.
  3. A little honey and lemon or lime.
  4. Blue lighting (if you wish, you can choose any colour for the lighting, the main thing is to create a pleasant atmosphere).

So, let’s get our glassware ready. A silver mug or bowl looks best. Pour a little boiling water into them, fill them with whisky almost to the brim and light them. Then pour the burning liquid from one bowl to another. The greater the distance between the bowls, the better. The bartender who invented the cocktail did this at a distance of one metre.
After a couple of such transfers, you can safely add lemon and honey. A spoonful of liquid honey is enough, but if you don’t have any, you can replace it with powdered sugar, which is also suitable for those who are allergic to honey products. A spoonful of lemon will balance the flavour.
Any homemade cocktails are in demand at home parties and celebrations. And not only because such drinks, and Blazer in particular, are cheaper than ordering them at a bar or nightclub, but also because it is a great opportunity to surprise your guests.
Besides, no one forbids you to experiment at home. If you search for a drink recipe at home, you will find an endless number of options. There are variations using apples, orange peel, raspberries, etc.
You can and should try new things! However, it is worth remembering that alcohol is still not a healthy product.
